For more than a decade, Bangladeshi photographer and photojournalist Farid Ahammad Rony has worked across Europe, documenting international events, cultural life, sport and urban landscapes while developing a body of work focused on people and places.
Rony grew up in Joar Kachar village in Feni, in southeastern Bangladesh. His interest in people, nature and everyday life eventually led him to photography. He later studied photojournalism in Paris and completed a diploma at the Bangladesh Photographic Institute.
His work has taken him to a range of international events, including the Cannes Film Festival, United Nations climate conferences, the ChangeNOW Summit, the Paris Peace Forum, UNESCO youth events and the Internet Governance Forum. He has also covered major sporting events, including the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the French Open tennis tournament, the Paris Marathon and the Ballon d'Or ceremony. His assignments have extended to Paris Fashion Week, the Paris Carnival, art exhibitions, technology conferences, Viva Technology and the Paris Air Show.
Rather than focusing on a single field, Rony's work has developed across news, culture, sport, technology and social issues. His photographs often place people and their surroundings at the center of the frame, reflecting the changing character of the cities and events he documents. One of his recent long-term projects is Images of Paris, a photography book published in Bengali, English and French. The book brings together photographs of Parisian architecture, public spaces, history and everyday urban life.

Farid Ahammad Rony has presented copies of the book to a number of public figures during meetings and international events. At the ChangeNOW Summit at Paris's Grand Palais, he presented copies to Prince Albert II of Monaco, former French prime minister and COP21 president Laurent Fabius, and United Nations Under-Secretary-General Melissa Fleming.
He has also presented the book to French President Emmanuel Macron and former Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo. According to Farid Ahammad Rony, correspondence from their offices subsequently acknowledged the publication. On June 30, Farid Ahammad Rony met Paris mayor Emmanuel Grégoire for a courtesy meeting and discussion. The conversation included the book and its focus on Paris as a subject of cultural and visual documentation. On Aug. 28, Rony presented a copy of Images of Paris to former French president François Hollande at an event in Paris. The meeting included discussion of the publication and the role of photography in cultural exchange.

The book was developed over an extended period, with input from researchers, cultural figures and others in Bangladesh and France, according to Rony. Its three-language format was intended to make the project accessible to audiences in both countries as well as international readers.

Beyond photography, Farid Ahammad Rony has also been involved in an initiative connected to the naming of a public square in France after Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The site, known as Place du Professeur Muhammad Yunus, was established following an administrative process involving local authorities.

Farid Ahammad Rony's professional activities have also included work connected to Bangladesh's photographic community. He is president of the Feni Photographic Society and has been involved in initiatives aimed at developing photography among younger practitioners. He is listed as a member of Press Club de France, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP). He is also a life member of the Bangladesh Photographic Society and an adviser to the Dhaka Photographers Club.

For Rony, photography provides a way of recording moments that might otherwise disappear. His assignments have ranged from major international gatherings to street scenes and cultural events, giving him a working archive of contemporary life in Europe. His career has also brought him into contact with prominent political, cultural and sporting figures, but his work remains centered on the camera rather than the personalities in front of it.
From a village in Feni to international assignments in Europe, Rony's career illustrates the increasingly international nature of photography and photojournalism. His Images of Paris project adds another dimension to that work: a record of one of the world's most photographed cities made through the perspective of a photographer from Bangladesh.
For Farid Ahammad Rony, the project is not simply about photographing Paris. It is also an attempt to document a city through architecture, public life and culture while creating a visual connection between France and Bangladesh.
