A career member of the Senior Foreign Service in the US, Tracey Ann Jacobson, will assume the role of Chargé d'Affaires (CDA), ad interim, at the US Embassy in Dhaka on January 11, 2025.
She will be the third CDA since Ambassador Peter Haas left Bangladesh in July after three years. Helen LaFave, deputy head of the US mission, served as CDA following Haas's departure but left Dhaka late last year. Megan Bouldin, who took over as Deputy Chief of Mission in August 2024, is currently serving as the CDA.
In May last year, US President Joe Biden nominated diplomat David Slayton Meale as the new US ambassador to Bangladesh. However, his appointment is pending Senate approval, which has been delayed due to the US presidential elections late last year.
President-elect Donald Trump is set to take office on January 20, and a diplomatic source indicated that Ambassador Meale's appointment is likely to be approved after that, sources said.
