Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Thursday night announced a one-day state mourning on Saturday following the untimely death of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho.
Making the announcement in a speech to the nation at around 11:10pm, Prof Yunus said the national flag would be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, government and private buildings, as well as Bangladesh missions abroad on the day of mourning.
He also said special prayers would be held after Jumma prayers on Friday in all mosques across the country, seeking salvation for the soul of Shaheed Osman Hadi. Special prayers will also be organised at places of worship of other religions.
Osman Hadi died on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore after being shot in Dhaka earlier this month.
