
Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis celebrated 54th Victory Day of Bangladesh 2025 with due respect and enthusiasm on Tuesday (16 December) at the High Commission premises. Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohammed, Minister for Housing and Lands, Muhammad Reza Cassam UTEEM, Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations and M. I. Abdool RAHMAN, Electoral Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius were present in the Victory Day program. Attendees paid their homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s independence, and a special tribute was paid to the martyrs who played a role in the revolution to restore democracy.
The program began with playing the national anthems of Bangladesh and Mauritius. Messages from the President, Chief Adviser and Foreign Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh , released on the occasion, were read out by the officials of the Mission. Documentaries titled 'SRABON BIDROHO' and 'FERA' were screened during the program.
In his speech, Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohammed, Minister for Housing and Lands of the Republic of Mauritius paid deepest tribute to all martyrs of the Liberation War in 1971 and congratulated the peoples of Bangladesh for bringing the country's development in such a stage of world arena.
In his remarks, Muhammad Reza Cassam UTEEM, Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations of the Republic of Mauritius highly praised the Bangladeshi workers for their contribution of Mauritius and reaffirmed that both the countries would enter into the MoU related to bringing in more and more workers from Bangladesh.
M. I. Abdool RAHMAN, Electoral Commission of the Republic of Mauritius said that he is eagerly waiting to go to Bangladesh to witness the upcoming elections in Bangladesh in February 2026.
Dr. Zokey Ahad, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Mauritius, in his remarks, paid deepest tribute to all the martyrs and victims of our war of Independence and the valiant freedom fighters of liberation war in 1971, mothers, sisters, daughters, who sacrificed their supreme dignity. He also paid deepest tribute to all the martyrs & survivors of the July-August Revolution of 2024 in Bangladesh and observed one-minute silence.
The High Commissioner elaborated on the attractive investment scenario that Bangladesh is offering now. He highlighted that Bangladesh is one of the world's fastest-growing economies and growing rapidly over a decade, is on its way to becoming the Asian Tiger. He mentioned, government implemented more than 100 Economic Zones including private economic zone. There is an opportunity to establish private economic zone. In this regard, government provides all the supports and incentives including land utilities.
He thanked Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohammed, Minister for Housing and Lands, Muhammad Reza Cassam UTEEM, Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations and M. I. Abdool RAHMAN, Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius and high-level dignitaries for joining the glorious Victory Day of Bangladesh. In his address, High Commissioner emphasized the enduring historical, Political, and cultural bonds between the two nations. He wished, Mauritius-Bangladesh friendship and brotherhood to live forever.
After the discussion session, the High Commissioner with the dignitaries cut a cake on the occasion.
Approximately 200 guests including high - level dignitaries of the host country, a large number of businessmen and Chamber leaders, civil society members, media personnel, members of Bangladesh community, expatriates Bangladeshis and members of officials and staffs of this High Commission attended the Victory Day program.
The guests were entertained with a wide range of foods including traditional Bangladeshi cuisine which was widely appreciated. The Victory Day program was widely covered in the Mauritian print and electronic media.
In the morning, members of the officials and staffs of this High Commission, officially hoisted the national flag of Bangladesh at full mast in the High Commission premises.
