17 April 2026, On the occasion of International Women’s Day and Bangla New Year 1433, the Soviet Alumni Association Bangladesh (SAAB), in collaboration with the Russian House in Dhaka, organized a lively Pitha (festive snacks) Festival and cultural program at the Russian House premises.

The event began with a vibrant atmosphere in the courtyard, where alumni of Soviet and Russian universities participated in a colorful gathering.

Guests enjoyed a variety of traditional Bangladeshi and Russian pitha, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of both countries and creating a warm and festive environment.

The main program commenced with a brief discussion session held in the auditorium of the Russian House in Dhaka.

Among the distinguished speakers were Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka; Architect Mohammad Sirajul Islam, General Secretary of SAAB; Professor (Dr.) Mizanur Rahman; and Dr. Hamida Maidar, President and Vice-President of SAAB.

In her speech, Alexandra Khlevnoy warmly welcomed the audience and noted that the gathering brought together several important occasions. She extended her greetings on the Bengali New Year, describing it as a time of hope and rich traditions, and expressed deep respect and appreciation for the significant contributions of Bangladeshi women to society.

She emphasized that the presence of graduates from Soviet and Russian universities represents a strong bridge between the two nations, highlighting that Russian education not only equips students with professional skills but also connects them with Russian culture and language.

She underscored the importance of educational cooperation in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening bilateral friendship, expressed pride in the achievements of the alumni and their continued close ties with the Russian House, and concluded by wishing everyone success, good health, and prosperity in the coming year.

Following the discussion, a cultural program was held featuring Russian and Bangladeshi music and dance performances by alumni members and their children.

The event concluded with great enthusiasm and active participation from all attendees.

The program highlighted the enduring friendship between Bangladesh and Russia, strengthened through education, cultural exchange, and strong people-to-people connections.
