BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia returned home this morning following four months of advanced medical treatment in London.
A special air ambulance provided by Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, touched the tarmac at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, at 10:42am, said Sayrul Kabir, a member of BNP.
Tarique's wife Zubaida Rahman and his late brother Arafat Rahman Koko's wife Syeda Sharmila Rahman and Khaleda Zia's personal physician Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain accompanied the former premier.
Senior party members warmly received  Khaleda Zia when she  entered  the airport on a wheelchair.  As the car carrying Khaleda Zia went out of the airport thousands of activists chanted slogans calling her name to welcome her. Many of them were seen walking alongside the vehicle carrying their leader.
Since morning, thousands of leaders and activists gathered in front of the airport to greet her. Hundreds of BNP activists were seen walking along the road near Dhaka airport to receive the party chairperson. Many arrived from across the country this morning, carrying Khaleda Zia's photographs, party flags, placards with welcome messages, and banners in anticipation of her return.
People were seen travelling in groups on pickups and motorcycles, waving party flags.
Many stood along the road holding banners, festoons, and flowers. Some chanted slogans to welcome Khaleda Zia, while others wore T-shirts bearing her image and headbands as a show of support.
On the ground, BNP leaders and activists were seen standing along the footpaths. Party volunteers were actively working to keep them off the road and ensure they remained on the pavements. However, in some areas, the crowd had spilled slightly onto the street, causing slow vehicular movement in several sections.
Ahead of her arrival, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police yesterday issued a 10-point directive to ensure security and smooth traffic flow.
The BNP has made elaborate arrangements to ensure a smooth, hassle-free journey from the airport to her Gulshan residence while seeking to avoid public inconvenience.
Located at House 1, Road 80 in Gulshan, her residence, Firoza, has been thoroughly cleaned and decorated, said Sayrul Kabir earlier.
On January 8, Khaleda flew to London in a special air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar.
