
A courtesy meeting was held today at the Ministry of Shipping between the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping, Shaikh Rabiul Alam and a delegation from the European Union (EU) Embassy. The EU delegation was led by Ambassador Michael Miller.
The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, including strengthening bilateral cooperation, enhancing connectivity, and exploring opportunities for collaboration in the transport, infrastructure, and maritime sectors.
Minister, Shaikh Rabiul Alam conveyed his sincere gratitude to the European Union for its continued cooperation and support in the development of Bangladesh’s communication infrastructure, particularly in the Railways and Shipping sectors. He described the European Union as a trusted development partner of Bangladesh and noted that the present Government is keen to further strengthen engagement with the EU. He also acknowledged the EU’s important role across various sectors, especially in the development of communication infrastructure.
The Minister expressed optimism that both sides would continue to work together in the future in a spirit of mutual respect, harmony, and friendship, serving the shared interests of both parties.
The EU Ambassador expressed keen interest in expanding investment in Bangladesh’s communication sector, particularly in the railway sector, as well as in the development of Chittagong Port, recognizing it as a key global gateway.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the ongoing partnership between Bangladesh and the European Union and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen cooperation in the coming years.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, along with senior officials from the concerned ministries, was present at the meeting.
