
The European Union will deploy 200 observers to monitor the upcoming national parliamentary election in Bangladesh.
EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller disclosed this information during a courtesy meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam at the Police Headquarters this afternoon.
During the meeting, the envoy expressed hope that the international observers would gain a positive impression of the police's professionalism and security protocols during the polls.
According to a press release issued by the Police Headquarters, the two officials discussed various issues, including the country's prevailing law and order situation, security for the upcoming election, and police reform.
IGP Baharul Alam briefed the ambassador on the police's comprehensive preparations for the election, highlighting that members of the force are undergoing "intensive and practical" training.
He also outlined the measures taken to ensure the security of foreign observers and diplomatic missions.
Ambassador Miller expressed the EU's interest in assisting with the ongoing police reform activities in Bangladesh, the release added.
