President, PM attend Eid-ul-Fitr main congregation at National Eidgah

Thousands attend prayers as authorities ensure security, facilities for worshippers

The main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr was held at the National Eidgah in the capital this morning, with the participation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The premier arrived at the Eidgah ground at 8:21am. Later, he received the president on his arrival at the Eidgah at 8:26am and exchanged greetings with him.
The prayers began at 8:30am, drawing thousands of worshippers from different walks of life.
Country's noted personalities, including chief justice, cabinet members, Supreme Court judges, lawmakers, senior political leaders, diplomats, and high civil and military officials also joined the congregation at the Jatiya Eidgah ground.
The president and the prime minister later exchanged Eid greetings with the people at the Eidgah.
The Dhaka South City Corporation organised the congregation with extensive preparations at the ground.
Authorities ensured facilities for around 35,000 worshippers, including arrangements for approximately 3,500 women.
Separate entry points, designated prayer areas, and ablution facilities were set up for women. Medical teams were also deployed on-site to provide emergency support.
Special arrangements were made for VIPs, alongside heightened security measures to ensure a smooth and orderly gathering.
Tarique, also chairman of ruling BNP, was scheduled to exchange greetings with people from all walks of life, foreign diplomats and educationists at the state guest house Jamuna at 10:00am.
Later, he was set to exchange Eid greetings with cabinet members, members of parliament, distinguished citizens, academicians, ulema and mashaikh, artists and writers, and senior civil servants and civil society members as well as cross sections of people.
After the programme, the prime minister along with his family members is expected to offer ziarat at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
This is Tarique Rahman's first Eid celebration in the country after more than one and a half decades in exile.
