Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today called on district commissioners (DCs) to engage in meaningful discussions within them that ensure coordination and mutual understanding.
Speaking at the District Commissioner (DC) Conference held at his office this morning, Yunus emphasised the need for strong communication among the officials.
"There should be no misunderstanding in our understanding. Everyone involved knows well what the issues are. The responsibility of the district as a whole lies with one person. Coordination with others is necessary. If there is a problem with that coordination, or if these matters need to be addressed separately, it should be clarified," he said.
The chief adviser also encouraged DCs to embrace creativity in their roles, urging them to express themselves while maintaining discipline and following the chain of command.
He further said, "What should be done if discipline is broken? How will the chain of command flow from top to bottom? It shouldn't be a case of 'this isn't my job, so I'm not paying attention'. This must not be allowed. Because we all together form the government. So, we cannot avoid responsibility in this regard."
The chief adviser highlighted the importance of teamwork in running an effective government.
"The government has to be a team. Running the government requires teamwork. When everyone comes together to form a team, then there is a discussion about who has what to do, and what are the shortcomings of whom. We should not make such a mistake that it hinders the success of the entire team," he added.
Reflecting on the progress since the formation of the government six months ago, Yunus acknowledged mistakes in the initial stages but said that the government is now ready for action.
The chief adviser also highlighted the protection of vulnerable groups, including women, children, and minorities.
"Protecting women and children is a crucial responsibility. Protecting minorities is a big responsibility. Because the whole world is watching us on this issue. The government's responsibility is to provide protection to all citizens. The programmes we will take in the future will have the protection of minorities at a high level," he said.
He also spoke about the issue of education, particularly primary education, advising the DCs to show attention and visit a few schools to make a meaningful impact.
"If the DCs show up a little, if you meet the school teachers, some rules will come out despite many irregularities.," the chief adviser said.
On the issue of market rates, Yunus suggested fostering a competitive system in the districts, encouraging healthy rivalry among officials and stakeholders.
He also said that law enforcement and government services should focus on delivering citizens' rights rather than causing hardships.
"There is no need to do anything because of someone's greed, because of someone's threats. At least not at this time. I will do whatever the law requires, whatever needs to be done for the country, that is what I will be busy with," he stated.
