Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis Commemorates July Mass Uprising Anniversary

The High Commission of Bangladesh in Port Louis organized commemorative events marking the first anniversary of the historic July 24 Mass Uprising, which led to the fall of the fascist regime in Bangladesh. The event was held at the High Commission premise on 09 August 2025. The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Messages from the Hon'ble President and the Hon'ble Chief Adviser of Bangladesh were read out.

Dr. Zokey Ahad, the High Commissioner to Mauritius, in his remarks, paid deepest tribute to all martyrs & survivors of the July-August Revolution of 2024 in Bangladesh. The High Commissioner thanked the expatriate Bangladeshis to attend this auspicious programme and also thanked them for their heroic role in the July 2024 Mass Uprising.


The High Commissioner, described the July Uprising as a "completely spontaneous" movement that paved the way for a new vision of Bangladesh. He said that the uprising is widely regarded as a turning point in Bangladesh's democratic struggle, ending a period of authoritarian rule through the sacrifice of hundreds of lives. He urged all expatriate Bangladeshis to work together to support the initiatives of the interim government in building a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh. Later, a one-minute silence was observed to pay homage and tribute to the martyrs of the Mass Uprising.

The event featured a special exhibition of posters and photographs highlighting key moments of the mass movement and the atrocities committed during that period. Also, documentaries titled 'July Anirban' 'Abrar Fahad', 'Deepak Kumar Goswami Speaking', 'Private Universities in July', 'July Women', 'Will You Sleep Ever Sleep Ma', 'July 18 Mahabubul' and 'Requiems for July Martyrs' were screened during the event. Special munajat were offered for the departed souls of the martyrs, well-being of the injured survivors and for the continued peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.

The event was attended by all the High Commission officials and staff, expatriate Bangladeshis, and their families. It is mentionable that Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis organized a series of events as part of observance of 'July Revival Ceremonies-2025'.
