Divorce rate doubled in 2022: BBS report

The divorce rate in Bangladesh doubled last year compared to 2021, according to the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics (BSVS) 2022 launched today by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The divorce rate per thousand increased to 1.4 in 2022 from 0.7 per thousand in 2021.

Meanwhile, the rate of marriage of girls below 15 years of age increased to 6.5 percent of all girls in the age group in 2022 from 4.7 percent in 2021, and the rate of marriage of girls below 18 years increased to 40.9 percent from 32.4 percent in the same period.

The information was revealed in the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2022 report released at the BBS building in Dhaka's Agargaon today.

Planning Minister MA Mannan was the chief guest at the event.
