Regional leaders congratulate Tarique Rahman after BNP’s resounding win

South and Southeast Asian leaders hail the mandate and reaffirm ties with Bangladesh

Leaders from across South and Southeast Asia have extended felicitations to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman following his party’s resounding victory in the 13th national election.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim described the results as a triumph of democracy, noting that the Bangladeshi people “having navigated a period of extraordinary challenges, have spoken clearly at the ballot box.”
He also commended Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus for ensuring a smooth democratic transition and expressed hope for renewed energy in Malaysia-Bangladesh ties.
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated Tarique Rahman on BNP’s landslide victory and praised the Bangladeshi people for conducting successful and peaceful polls, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to democratic partnership and shared progress.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake highlighted the trust placed in Tarique Rahman by Bangladeshi voters and expressed eagerness to strengthen bilateral relations.
Similarly, Nepalese Prime Minister Sushila Karki described the outcome as a remarkable victory and looked forward to closer cooperation with Bangladesh across areas of mutual interest.
From the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu lauded BNP’s electoral success and expressed optimism for deepening longstanding friendship and cooperation.
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay echoed similar sentiments, calling the mandate resounding and underscoring confidence in Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
Several Indian leaders also extended warm wishes.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed Bangladeshis as her “brothers and sisters,” offering congratulations to Tarique Rahman and his party and advance Ramadan greetings.
Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the historical, linguistic, and cultural bonds shared by India and Bangladesh, reiterating India’s support for a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh for regional stability and peace.
