Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today and discussed bilateral relations.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat at around 11:00am, said Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony.
“It was a courtesy meeting. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of mutual interest,” he said.
This was Trivedi’s first meeting with Tarique Rahman.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and the prime minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir were present at the meeting.
India appointed Trivedi, a former railway minister and minister of state for health and family welfare, and a veteran politician from West Bengal, as its 16th high commissioner to Bangladesh in April, replacing Pranay Kumar Verma.
Trivedi formally assumed office after presenting his credentials to former president Mohammed Shahabuddin on June 25.
Trivedi has alreadyheld meetings with Khalilur Rahmanand State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed as part of his diplomatic engagements in Dhaka.
