BNP founder and ex-president Ziaur Rahman was the mastermind behind the assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday.

“BNP are lying saying that Awami League is annihilating the Zia family—strange! What a farce in daylight! Who was behind the 1975 assassination? Who targeted to annihilate the family of Bangabandhu?---Zia was the mastermind behind it and he did this to fulfill his ambition to grab the power,” he said.

Obaidul came up with the remark while speaking at a programme marking the August 21 grenade attack in front of the Awami League’s party office.

“We did not do any politics of conspiracy as we fall prey to the conspiracy and no one in the history can show any evidence against us that we made a conspiracy to kill anyone. They (BNP) told the foreigners that Awami League wanted to destroy the Zia family but how?” said the Road Transport and Bridges Minister.

Mentioning that, BNP did not come back from their stance to wipe out Awami League, the Awami League leader urged all to resist them and defeat their political movement and defeat them in the election.
